Time to talk about tools

Image uploaded from iOS

Finally the day has come. We are eager to share. We hope you are eager to learn. Today we proudly present 2 tools to help you create Open Badges. We show you why we did them, how we did them and how you can use them. We even show you how you can import and start using our 9 badges in your own organisation/setting.

This way you can learn from our mistakes and get up to speed on creating your own badges. But rest assured. We will not bore you with all the details of what we did and did not do the last five years. Rather, we will give you a distilled version, focusing on what you can use.

You do not want to miss this.

30 minutes of pure gold

30minGold

We huffed and we puffed, we discussed and we developed. And then we went live.

The beginning was not too promising. The facebook live broadcast would not start. The sound was dead. The image was tilted. And we were heading for a disaster.

Then something happened and everything started working, more or less.

We were live. And we managed to condense two and a half years of development work into a tight 30 minutes of experience sharing. When you watch this broadcast you will get to know our 9 badges, why we made them, how to use them, and how they can help in teacher competence development.

We think our eco-system of badges is really quite good. But don’t take my word for it, check for yourself!

Watch (and share) the recording of the webinar here.

PS, to make the recording more useful we polished the slow start. now it looks quite ok.

If you have comments or questions, head over to our facebook page “Open Badges for Adult Educators” and ask away!

From competence to the badge

Image uploaded from iOS

With the help of of Nordplus Adult project funding, a group of Open Badge experts in non-formal adult education have developed a systematic approach and created a set of nine badges to validate certain adult educator key competences. They have learnt a lot about criteria, validation procedures, descriptors, quality control and procedures along the way.

Now it’s time to share. We offer 2 live broadcasts on Facebook on 17 and 18 of May, each 45 min long. All secrets will be revealed. And you are invited.

On 17 May 13.00 (Swedish time) we present our 9 badges, what they are, how you can take them, what we learned, and discuss with you about how to use them. You are most welcome to participate! The day is open to all. If you have created a badge (or several) or are in the process of making them, this broadcast is for you!

On 18 May 13.00 (Swedish time) we present our tools, the criteria guide that is open for all to use.

“Let’s talk about competence – and badge it!”

Open Badges have been around for some years as a digital credentials system.
The badge movement is gaining momentum in all areas of learning and education.

During a one day workshop in Göteborg on 17 May 2018 all secrets will be revealed. And you are invited.

The programme includes discussions on how to best describe competences, what badge systems to use, how to develop good criteria and how you get from your idea to a ready-made badge. You are most welcome to participate! The day is open to all. If you have created a badge (or several) or are in the process of making them, this day is for you!

This is a practical workshop. You will get the most out of the day by preparing a little. Consider what you would like to recognise by using open badges (a specific competence, participation, or something else). Think about who you want to badge (learners, teachers, volunteers or others).

You will be able to create and test your badge(s). You will get feedback on your criteria, design and scope. You will learn about badge ecosystems, badge platforms and badge creation steps.

The more you prepare the better your badge will be. Once you register we will send you a guide and a checklist to help you get ready.

The workshop is free of charge. Participants must pay their own travel costs and lunch.

Seminar “Open badges in adult education”

24th November 2017
European information centre, Gedimino pr. 16, Vilnius, Lithuania

Registration (Deadline 15th November)

If you are working in lifelong learning and are willing to explore how open digital badges can help your organisation to recognise competences of adult educators, then this is the right event for you. An international team of experts from Finland, Sweden and Lithuania has conducted a survey identifying core competences of a good adult educator. The result (over 200 replies) has fed into the creation of Open Badges on 3 core competences for adult educators. At this event we will present, test and collect feedback about the system together with you. The day consists of two parts. One part presents the methodology, the system, and the learning concepts we build upon. The second is a hands-on workshop for you to start developing your own badge system. Please indicate in the registration form if you are planning to take part in the first or second or both workshops. Of course everyone is also invited for the common networking lunch from 13:00 to 14:30.

This seminar is a multiplying event for the international project “Open badges in folkbildning”, supported by Nordplus programme. It is free of charge.

Po(n)dering the future of badges

badge_pod

Open Badges are here to stay, or so it seems. Everywhere we go there is interest, and questions, and development suggestions. It is not to say that Badges are immediately implemented and will (or should) replace other forms of validation.

Shifting the way we see and understand things is a slow process. That is good. We should consider the implications carefully, and not plunge headfirst into everything new for the sake of it. So as we prod along there are times when the process can seem unnervingly slow, or indeed even halted. To combat that feeling of despair and to lift our eyes from the ground a bit we sat down after a nice evening together, in a small cosy hotel room in Stockholm, and started to share our experiences, thoughts, visions and more, on Badges today and tomorrow.

The result is a rather endearing podcast, which I hereby invite you to listen to, and reflect upon.
